Let’s start by taking a closer look at a really important feature of any bike – the brakes. This bike uses dual-disc brakes as opposed to the more widely used V-brakes. Disc brakes slow and stop the bike from the hub, rather than from the rim. This results in far more controlled braking making the wheels less likely to lock up. Disc brakes also work better in wet weather, and they also have better stopping power which is really helpful on a long descent, and unlike V-brakes they don’t heat the rim, which can cause potentially dangerous tire blowouts.
Built from high-tensile steel, the frame of this Xpec Folding Mountain Bike is strong and durable enough to take the knocks of rugged terrain mountain bike riding. Although it is a little heavier than an aluminum frame bike, it is still very easy to handle and highly maneuverable, and can also be completely folded right down, ready to be stored away, and back up again and ready to ride, in around 15 seconds each way.
Another high-spec feature of this bike are its 21-speed Shimano gear shifter and rear derailleur. For shifting up and down through the gears this bike has a handlebar mounted Shimano Trigger SL-TX30 lever which works brilliantly with the Shimano ST-EF51 rear derailleur to give you smooth, responsive, and reliable shifting, along with the durability you would expect from Shimano.
For a more comfortable ride and to keep the bike as lightweight as possible for far easier handling, this bike comes with 26″ double wall alloy rims, which are strong, durable, shock absorbing, and also protect your bikes inner tubes from any damage from the spokes.
For extra comfort, especially when riding on rougher terrain, the Xspec Folding Mountain Bike also features some pretty impressive front and rear suspension. There is a shock absorber located underneath the seat post, along with front suspension forks, which work really well together to cushion against minor bumps and potholes in city streets as well as the rugged and unpredictable terrain of off-road riding.
The Xpec Folding Mountain Bike is delivered 99% assembled meaning there are a few things you will need to put together yourself before you can ride it, for which you will need regular and Allen wrenches, then it’s just a matter of assembling the front tire, the seat, the mudguards and the reflectors. Instructions are included however we didn’t find them to be much help so if you’re not mechanically minded you may want to get this done for you by your local bike shop.
Once you have the bike fully assembled you will be looking at a quality well built folding mountain bike with a sleek and streamlined design with an adjustable seat which comfortably accommodates riders from around 5 ft 3 ins to 6 ft tall, and weighing in at up to 220 lbs. The handlebar height isn’t adjustable but the angle of the controls is so there’s no problem there.

Performance-What Is The Xspec Folding Mountain Bike Like To Ride?…
The first thing you will probably notice when you get on this bike is the seat. Some riders have found it to be pretty uncomfortable, until you either get used ti it or swap it out for something a little wider and with more padding.
Other than that though, once you have adjusted the seat height to suit you, it’s a pretty comfortable ride. The handlebars are comfortable to grip and the brakes and gear shifter are within easy reach and also easy to operate.
The bike feels solid and sturdy. It does have some weight to it but not enough to make it anything like difficult to handle, in fact it feels like what it is-a really good combination of city commuter and off-road bike.
The brakes give very good stopping power however the tires do tend to skid a little on grass so that’s something you may wish to keep in mind.
The Xspec folding mountain bike gives a smooth and quiet ride whether you are riding on city streets or off road on mountain trails. The suspension is spot on and does a great job of absorbing lumps and bumps in the road as well as on downhill trails strewn with rocks and tree roots, even when riding at speed.
Folding this bike either up, or down is simplicity itself, it fits easily into the trunk of a standard car when folded however may be a little heavy to be carrying on and off public transport.
On the whole, the Xspec Folding Mountain Bike is a great bike to ride, both on and off-road and one which we feel is well worth checking out.

Verdict-Should You Buy It?…
If you are looking for a pretty decent quality folding mountain bike which folds up and down quickly and easily, and can be stored away virtually anywhere, and which is also great for commuting and riding round town through the week, as well as tackling mountain tracks and trails on the weekends, then the Xspec 21-Speed Folding Mountain Bike should be very near the top of your list.
We currently have it at number 6 on out list of the Top 10 Folding Bikes for 2020, and it’s also pretty high on Amazon.com’s list of best selling folding bikes too.
This bike has some fantastic top of the line features such as its Shimano gear system and its dual disc brake technology, and it’s really well and solidly put together too.
The suspension works a treat at neutralizing bumps and potholes, and once you either get used to the saddle, or swap it for one with more padding, this is a pretty comfortable ride both on and off road.
Folding it up, or down is really easy, and once you get the hang of it can be done in around 15 seconds, making it a breeze to fold up, jump on and ride, or fold down and store away.
