Schwinn Hinge Folding Bike In More Depth…

An adjustable seat post and quick release adjustable handlebars make the Schwinn Hinge Folding Bike suitable for riders of most heights and who weigh up to 220 lbs. This also allows you to adjust the seat and handlebars to the perfect position to give you the most comfortable ride possible.

In addition, it also makes this Schwinn bike a fantastic choice for teenagers who still have some growing left to do as it can be adjusted as they grow and will last them well into adulthood, plus it’s also a great choice if the bike is to be shared by multiple riders of different heights.

The Schwinn Hinge is built around a strong and sturdy steel frame which flexes naturally to absorb vibration, which also makes it incredibly durable, far longer lasting than aluminum, as well as comfortable.

This bike is pretty easy to fold once you get the hang of it however there are no magnetic catchers to hold in place once it is folded. To counterbalance this, it does come with a heavy-duty nylon carry bag which keeps it together when folded down and makes it easier to carry. This bike does weigh in at around 38 lbs though which to be honest is a bit on the heavy side compared to some other models.

On the upside, one of the pedals folds giving the bike a smaller footprint and making it easy to store in smaller spaces.

The single speed drivetrain will get you around fast enough on level terrain making this bike good for zipping through rush hour traffic on city streets, however if there are hills on your journey, particularly steep ones, you’re going to struggle with no gears. A plus with this bike is that it allows you to simply coast along without pedaling once you have built up a decent amount of speed, so your legs aren’t constantly working to keep you moving.

You also get full-wrap fenders which are great for keeping your clothes clean while riding, as well as keeping them dry when riding in wet weather. There is also a rear carry rack which allows you to carry any bags and book, and even items from the store home easily and securely. And to ensure you are seen at night and for safer cycling in other low lit conditions, the pedals have built in reflector bars

This folding commuter bike also comes with Schwinn’s Limited Lifetime Warranty for as long as you own the bike which is always a good sign when a manufacturer stands behind their brand like this.

Performance…

Despite this bike being heavier than  a lot of other folding bikes out there it actually handles pretty well. It’s a basic functional bike that is easy to operate, sturdy, and rides pretty smooth and comfortably, however the seat may take some getting used to for some users as it is a little on the hard side.

You will have no doubt noticed that this bike has no gears meaning in terms of speed, distance and terrain adaptability, with this bike you are well and truly on your own meaning you will only ever be able to travel as fast, as far and climb any hills as well as you are able to pedal.

Having said that, this is a great bike to ride on the flat for city commutes, trips to and from the store- the carry rack is good and sturdy, and general leisure riding or riding around town and taking in the sights. If you are looking for a folding bike for riding long distances, you would do well to bear in mind what we said earlier about the seat as some riders will find it a little hard at first.

You should also bear in mind that this bike is a little heavier than say the Zizzo Via which weighs in at just 27 lbs, and the Zizzo Campo at 28 lbs, so if you need a bike that’s lightweight enough to carry on and off buses, trains and elevators, as well as up and down stairs you may do better with either one of these.

As for folding this bike, it’s really easy to do and once folded down it’s a breeze to store away literally anywhere either in the corner of an office or apartment, in a closet, and it even fits nice and easily into the trunk of an average size car. You also get a pretty cool heavy duty nylon carry bag with a zip fastener to keep it together and protected when folded down.

That all being said, the Schwinn Hinge Folding Bike is a pretty decent choice of a budget friendly bike. It’s fantastic quality for the money and if you’re buying on a budget this one is well worth checking out.

Customer Feedback…

Customer feedback is a great way to get a true picture of how something is actually performing in the real world before you buy, and so to get both sides of the story we went over to Amazon.com and took a look at the customer feedback being left by the people who are actually buying this bike right now.

At the time of putting this review together the Schwinn Hinge Folding Bike has an average feedback score of 3.8 out of 5 stars from 219 customer reviews, which is pretty good, and 54% of them are 5 star reviews,  with a further 14% being 4 star reviews which we think you’ll agree indicates that the majority of people currently buying this folding bike on Amazon.com are very happy with it.

The things they seem to like most about it are how easy it is to fold down and fit in the trunk of a car or any other small storage space. They like how easy and fun it is for commuting and general riding around and sightseeing, as well as how nice and smooth it is to ride.

Some other things they are commenting on is how strong and sturdy it is and how well it handles despite it’s weight as well as the incredible value for money it offers in terms of price as well as being perfect for beating traffic and parking charges.

There are also a number of reviews being left by people who have some issues with this bike and as a result have given it 3 stars or less, their main concerns which you may wish to take into account are that folding the bike down takes a bit of practice. Some users found it too heavy to carry up and down stairs, and they also mention that they find the bike only having the one gear a limiting factor particularly when riding up hills.

Some users find the seat uncomfortable, however there are many others who are more than happy with it, a number of them commented on the bike having a flimsy chain guard, and a there are some customers who received bikes that were damaged in transit.

On the whole, most people seem very happy with the Schwinn Hinge, however it would be unfair of us to only give you one side of the story…
