The Stowabike 26″ Folding MTB V2 is a pretty decent quality folding mountain bike for the price. It is not the best bike for hardcore mountain bike enthusiasts, but for casual weekend trail riders, and riders who enjoy the occasional run around town, to and from the store, and work and college commuters who don’t intend to hammer the bike every chance they get, it’s pretty good.

The bikes 26″ folding frame is made from cast iron which makes it heavier and slightly less portable than some of its competitors. Being made from cast iron does give the frame the added advantages of being incredibly tough and durable as well as being rust and corrosion resistant, and also contributes towards a more comfortable ride.

The front steel suspension fork may not be the best in the world however it still does a pretty good job of cushioning against lumps, bumps and potholes for a smoother and more comfortable ride which is also easier on your hands, wrists, and forearms, especially when riding on tougher terrain.

The 18-speed gearing is pretty much a must on a bike the size of the Stowabike 26″ Folding MTB V2 is good, it’s surprisingly smooth and accurate and gives the bike some decent terrain adaptability when you need it, thus saving your legs from having to work any harder than necessary.

The bikes dual suspension comes in really handy on tough trails to make your ride really quite comfortable, and on city streets and other paved surfaces the ride is even smoother, in fact in our opinion the gears and suspension together make urban riding more like urban floating, which is pretty remarkable for a folding bike at this price point.

This bike is also fitted with a steel kickstand allowing you to conveniently and stably stand the bike while you grab a coffee, take some photos of the scenery, or in case you need to carry out any minor adjustments or maintenance to the bike while you may be out and about and with nothing suitable around to lean it up against.

Performance…

For people who aren’t hardcore mountain bikers and just want a bike to go to for a leisurely coast through the neighborhood, to the park and mountain trails for a ride and save on storage space, this bike is just fine, and although we wouldn’t recommend it for trails with ratings of “very difficult” and “extreme”, this is a great bike for the trails, it handles very well on stone roads, and it is responsive and easy to handle on city streets for commutes.

This bike is pretty easy to assemble, although the instructions do leave a lot to be desired, and assembly isn’t really much more than putting air in the tires, fitting the front wheel, seat and handlebars and performing a few minor adjustments to the brakes and gears and can all be done in 15 minutes or less-tools are included.

One thing we should point out here is that the Stowabike 26″ MTB V2 is only really suitable for riders from 5 ft 5 in to 6 ft 1 in tall, this is due to the length of the seatpost, you can of course cut it down to suit if you like, otherwise we recommend going for a different folding mountain bike which fits you.

Other than that, this is a pretty strong folding bike that’s been built to last, it feels sturdy when you get on and not like a cheap toy that’s going to snap in half when you go over your first bump.

Riding is nice and smooth, the gears seem to take a little while to break in but once they have they shift really smoothly and deal really well with uneven surfaces, they make climbing hills easy and handle changes in terrain smoothly and without any problems. You get a really smooth ride on paved surfaces, the bike picks up speed pretty quickly and is easy to handle despite its weight.

The Stowabikes brakes aren’t the best in the world to be honest, nor the worst either and they do stop the bike which is the important thing.

The suspension performs pretty well on bumpy terrain, probably better than you would normally expect from a bike at this price point. The rear shocks are a major plus and handle ruts and potholes nicely. The bike thick tires help here too and give a pretty decent grip on and off-road.

The only real drawback with this bike is that the seat isn’t exactly super comfortable, especially for long distances, however it does give you the support you need and so a gel seat cover will probably remedy this rather than shelling out for another seat.

All-in-all we found the Stowabike 26″ MTB V2 to be a low-cost functional folding mountain bike that’s also great for commuting and zipping through shortcuts where cars can’t go, and that folds down easily to save on storage space in the shed, garage or car trunk, and is easy enough to take on public transport.

And although some of the components could be better quality, at this price point your’e still getting a lot of bike for your money and so this is still one to check out, especially if you’re buying on a budget.

Verdict-Should You Buy The Stowabike 26″ Folding MTB V2?…

If you’re looking for an easily affordable folding mountain bike to use on moderate to average mountain trails and urban commutes, and that is also a space saver when it comes to storing it away we strongly recommend checking out the Stowabike 26″ MTB V2 on Amazon.com.

This bike has a seriously durable and rust resistant folding frame which should last you for many years to come and its 18-speed gearing is actually made by Shimano so there should be no problems there either.

The dual suspension is also very good at absorbing lumps and bumps and cushioning against potholes and the like so you get a pretty comfortable ride on trails, and a super comfortable ride on paved surfaces which make it a great choice for commutes as well.

The only drawbacks we came across with this bike are that the seat is a bit on the hard side and we think that some of the components like the brake levers are a little cheap, so if your’e wondering why this bike didn’t make it onto our top 10 list, now you know.

That being said, even though this isn’t the best folding mountain bike we have reviewed, this bike is getting plenty of positive feedback on Amazon and for what it costs it is still a bike worth checking out if you don’t want to spend a lot of money, it won’t fall apart underneath you, it’s just not built for hardcore mountain biking, but for everything else it’s a pretty good bike.

Performance…

The Max4out Folding Mountain Bike performs every bit as well as you would expect a standard mountain bike to perform. When you first get seated on it, one of the first things  you will notice is just how solid, sturdy and comfortable it feels. The shocks are pretty decent however the front suspension could probably be improved a little bit but it’s still pretty effective so maybe we’re nit picking a bit here.

Gears give good terrain adaptability even on very rough ground and they also give you an amazingly smooth ride on paved surfaces which makes this an awesome bike for commuting as well as mountain biking.

The brakes can take a little bedding in hut once they have they work brilliantly, even on loose ground like gravel and dirt. The tires give pretty god grip too which helps there.

All-in-all, this is a pretty decent folding mountain bike and gives a smooth and solid ride that’s fun and enjoyable pretty much anywhere you care to ride it, and we highly recommend taking a closer look at this one if you are looking for a seriously tough mountain bike.

Designed to be used for city commutes, or as a means of getting more exercise, and for general day-to-day riding, it does all three pretty well indeed.

It is also really easy to fold down and store away just about anywhere. It’s also a pretty lightweight bike too, weighing in at around 32 lbs/14.5 kg, so if you need to carry it with you, especially up and down stairs, or on and off elevators or buses and trains it’s not going to be a problem.

This folding bike also comes with a Shimano 6-speed gear system which is operated via a Shimano Revoshift twist grip shifter on the handlebar, and which is great for both picking up speed quickly on the flat for a traffic beating commute on busy city streets where you’ll be able to zip in and out of standing traffic and save time on your commute…and also for taking the slog out of hill climbing.

This IDS folding bicycle also features a set of front and rear semi-alloy v-brakes. V-brakes are far less expensive and more convenient than disc brakes to repair, replace and maintain as you can easily do all three on the go. Replacement brake shoes, along with other components are very easy to come by, you will probably find them on Amazon too, and although v-brakes can wear your rims, in contrast they don’t put any strain on the spokes or hubs.

Front and rear Wanda 20″ x 1.75″ tires make this bike a great choice for everyday use on city streets. They may not be the best tires you can buy, however they will give you pretty good grip on roads and other paved surfaces as well as some cushioning against any bumps in the road you may come across.

This bike also features something which you don’t see on many bikes these days, and that’s a bell which is a great little safety device for letting other road users, and pedestrians know you’re around.

Should you need to adjust the height of the seat at all, this is easy and quick to, as is adjusting the height of the handlebar.

Once you’re all set, the IDS Home unYOUsual U Transformer Folding City Bike rides just like a normal bike. It’s solid and stable, easy to handle and it’s perfect for using as a basic travel bike, or for popping around town and zipping around campsites too. In fact wherever you choose to ride it, as long as the terrain is relatively smooth and flat, this bike rides really well.

We can only describe the gear shifting as ‘flawless’, granted, it’s not going to be that good on step hills, but other than that the gears on this bike do take much of the heavy legwork out of long rides.

The brakes work smoothly and reliably, on time, every time, even when riding downhill at speed so no problems there.

Folding the bike is easy and straightforward, you just drop the seat right down, drop the handlebars, fold the stem and then fold the frame in half. When folded the bike fits easily into the trunk of most cars and is just as easy to store away in compact spaces or even in a closet.

The only real downsides we found with this bike are that it is a little heavy, so some users may have difficulty carrying it, and the chain guard is made of plastic and is a little on the flimsy side.

Performance…

We found this bike to ride pretty much every bit like you would expect a decent quality full size standard bike to ride.

When you sit on the bike it is comfortable and has a sturdy reliable feel about it. Set off riding and pedaling it is a breeze and the gears shift easily, accurately and responsively giving a nice smooth ride.

The bikes light weight makes it really easy to control, and even easier to carry when it’s folded down.

Folding the bike down, and back up again is incredibly easy, the folding mechanism is smooth and the whole folding operation takes literally just seconds and the magnet catcher does a great job of keeping it securely in place.

The brakes are good and strong and give you all the stopping power you need right when you need it.

This Goplus 20″ folding bike is pretty fast and has really nice gearing which stands up surprisingly well to even pretty aggressive riding. The Shimano 7-speed grip shifter and rear derailleur give smooth and accurate changing through the gears and are a breeze to operate.

The gears also make this bike a pretty decent hill climber and can reduce the amount of effort required for uphill riding and off road riding by a massive 80%!, however it’s not a mountain bike by any stretch of the imagination, and they will help you pick up a pretty decent amount of speed pretty quickly when riding on the flat which will save you time, and money on commutes while giving a smoother and more comfortable ride.

The handlebar features comfortable non-slip rubber grips which are great for making longer rides more comfortable and less strenuous on your arms, wrists and hands by reducing hand numbness as well as fatigue and forearm pain. The main thing though is that your hands stay put on the handlebar keeping you in full control of the bike.

The Goplus 20″ folding bike also features a high-strength folding iron frame. This makes it a little heavier than bikes with aluminum alloy frames, however it does give it a high load bearing capacity and makes it far tougher when it comes to taking the knocks, and its far more durable too. You will also notice a more comfortable ride on city streets with an iron frame bicycle without any significant loss in maneuverability.

This bike weighs in at 32 lbs, which is equivalent to 14.5 kg, and it folds down to 24 inches in height x 12.5 inches wide and 32.5 inches in length, making it pretty easy to carry up and down stairs and on and off buses and trains and the like, and also compact enough to stow away in relatively small spaces.

Folding the bike down is a piece of cake, you just release the catch on the stem and fold it down, and then release the catch on the frame and literally fold the bike in half, and that’s it, really quick and easy to do, in fact probably quicker than finding a secure place to leave it and locking it up, and all without the worry of returning to find it stolen or damaged.

If you’re looking for a folding bike that is fully height adjustable, this could very well be the bike for you. You can adjust the height of  both the handlebars and the seat really easily to make it comfortable to ride for users from around 5 ft to 6 ft tall, give or take a couple of inches either way. The seat actually adjusts from 25″ to 36″ in height, and the handlebars from 40.5″ to 46″.

Tires are a pretty important feature on any bike and the tires on this bike are made from a high-quality, tough and non-slip age resistant rubber which are surprisingly difficult to pierce, making them pretty puncture resistant too. This all comes together to make for a far safer ride in wet and dry weathers whether you are commuting through city streets, zipping across campsites, or enjoying a day out trail riding on rougher terrain.

And for added safety when you need to ride your bike at night, or in other low lit conditions  there are also BS reflectors on the wheels and pedals which will ensure that you are easily seen by other road users.

This folding bicycle is fitted with front and rear V-brakes. This style of brake is a pretty efficient way of stopping a bike, and can even shorten your stopping distance. They are also a breeze to maintain and even replace while you are out riding if needs be, and they have the added advantage of not putting the hubs or spokes under strain. Spare shoes and other parts are also widely available and easy to fit.

It is also worth noting that V-brakes can cause wear and tear on the rims, and their performance will be affected when riding in wet weather and muddy conditions.

The seat is designed for enhanced riding comfort. It is fairly wide compared to those on other folding bikes making for more even weight distribution allowing you to ride longer and further and more enjoyably than you would be able to on a bike with a harder and narrower seat.

What Is It Like To Ride?…

Really pretty well actually. One of the first things we noticed about this bike is just how solid it feels. In fact it feels like it’s not going to be too easy to maneuver but nothing could be further from the truth. Strong, sturdy and solid it may be, however it is still easily light enough to carry up and down stairs-handy if you happen to live or work on the 9th floor!

Once you move off and get under way the gears do a great job of helping you pick up speed pretty quickly, and it’s also a pretty comfortable ride too, and that’s on paved city streets and rougher tracks and trails too.

The gears are great. They take a massive amount of legwork out of your ride and let you power up hills with minimal effort. That’s not to say the bike does the work for you, but it certainly takes a lot of the strain.

The brakes are spot on, they bring you to a smooth and steady stop, or a more immediate on depending on how urgently you operate the levers, however, expect longer stopping distances in wet weather. For superior wet weather braking you should consider a folding bike with dual disc brakes.

Folding and unfolding the bike couldn’t be easier. The catches are easy to open and close and the folding mechanism is super user friendly. The only drawback is that there are no magnetic catches to keep the bike in place when it is folded down, and no carry bag either.

The bottom line-this bike is well worth checking out for anyone looking for a low-cost folding bike that’s comfortable to ride, really well put together, and that will last a good few years.

The seat easily adjusts to suit riders standing 5 ft tall to riders standing over 6 ft tall, and weighing up to 220 lbs, making this a great choice of folding bicycle for taller riders, or to last you from being in your early teens, right through to being a fully grown adult.

And for one of the most important aspects of your ride, your riding comfort, this bike comes with high-grade 20″ alloy wheels which give it greater speed and acceleration while remaining incredibly strong and lightweight. Alloy wheels also give better braking, especially in wet weather making the bike far safer to ride. The wheels are fitted with 1.75″ inflatable road tires which give some cushioning against bumps in the road.

When your bike arrives it will require some minimal assembly, nothing major and can be done in about 30 mins, however no tools are included so make sure you have a wrench, a screwdriver and an air pump. As for the actual assembly, it’s basically just fitting the seat, front wheel and fender, handlebars and adjusting the brakes and pumping up the tires.

Carry Rack; The rear mounted carry rack is great for carrying pretty much whatever you need to carry…books to and from college…items from the store etc, however it is not designed, or recommended for carrying passengers.

Performance…

This bike rides pretty smoothly and shifting up and down through the gears is an absolute breeze. If you’re worried that a folding bike is going to be slow and sluggish to ride for some reason, there’s no need, but then it doesn’t ride like a 26″ road bike either, it’s not designed to, however it is ideal for leisure biking, commuting, long distance riding, and whatever may come in between, and moves at a pretty decent 10-12 mph in top gear.

The seat is pretty comfortable once you get used to it and the handgrips also feel pretty good too. Folding and unfolding the bike is very easy and the locks and catches are good quality and easy to use.

The brakes are Shimano v-brakes and do a very good job of bringing the bike to a safe and almost immediate stop without threatening to throw you over the handlebars.

The steering can take some getting used to due to the small wheels and the virtually vertical handlebars, but once you have mastered it the bike is pretty maneuverable.

All-in-all this bike performs pretty well as long as you’re using it for its intended purpose i.e leisure riding, commuting, that type of thing. It’s a great little folding bike that’s built for fun rather than speed and one which we highly recommend taking a look at.

This bike is very easy to fold and unfold and weighing just 36 lbs is pretty easy to carry up and down stairs an on and off public transport. Storing the bike away is also a breeze, it folds down nice and small and fits easily into the trunk of an average sized car, and can also be stored in a closet or any other similar compact space.

This bike is also very easy and comfortable to ride, the gears, being Shimano are smooth and accurate and do take some of the legwork out of reaching your destination, and they come in particularly handy on hills.

The v-brakes are also Shimano, they are easy to operate and will bring you to a safe and steady stop even when riding at top speed in wet weather.

This really is a great bike for the money, it’s currently at number 2 in our Top 10 Folding Bikes for 2020 list, and the only drawback we can find with it is that it doesn’t come with a protective carry bag to put it in when it is folded down like you get with the Schwinn Loop folding bicycle.

Other than that, if you are in the market for an incredibly good value and easily affordable folding bike that will get you where you need to go pretty quickly, and safely, and which is suitable for taller riders you may just have found what you are looking for.
